Our introduction to website design began in 1996, when a simple website called eXpunged (after the Linux PINE delete mail option) was created to discuss the Quake and TeamFortress computer game scene in Australia. While the site is long gone and wasn't particularly elegant in its design, it was hugely functional and there are still websites that link to it.

The flamboyant website designs of the last millenium with their excessive Photoshop effects and JavaScript rollovers are pretty much over, replaced by modern designs that are simple, elegant, and purposeful. More than ever, websites today must be usable and not confusing for visitors.
